2011 AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Who will come out on top in the American Football Conference this season? Pundits and fans are looking at the AFC in a new light recently. And, with the signing of two NFC Stars to AFC Teams, the odds are getting more even every day. Brandon Marshall has signed on with the Miami Dolphins and Santonio Holmes recently inked with the New York Jets, arming QB Mark Sanchez with another deadly weapon.
The New England Patriots are always favorites to take the AFC as long as Bill Belichick and Tom Brady don blue, silver, red and white. The Detroit Lions are the only other team that looks to possibly contend with these three. Depending on how the team drafts (they should draft DT Ndamukong Suh who could anchor that defense for years to come!) they could do well this season.

AFC Championship History
The American Football Conference is one of the most exciting games in football next to the Super Bowl – some might say even more so, as the AFC win determines the team in the league that will go to the Super Bowl. The AFC Championship is a semi final game that matches up the two top teams in the AFC division in the NFL. The winner receives the Lamar Hunt trophy – and faces the NFC champions in the Super Bowl. The Current Champions are the Indianapolis Colts, but this coming January might change that! The AFC began when the NFL and American Football League merged. The 10 former AFL teams, along with the Baltimore Colts, Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers. Towards the end of each season, a series of playoff games between the top six teams in the AFC happen – the four division champs and two Wild Card Teams. The two remaining play the AFC championship – and one of them may even make it to the Super Bowl. However, since the ’75/ ’76
season a Wild Card team cannot host the game – unless both Championship participants are wild card draws.
